Petition to Repeal the FACE Act and Pardon the Rescuers
Dear President-Elect Donald Trump, We, the undersigned, call for the repeal of the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances (FACE) Act and the pardon of individuals, known as the rescuers, who have been imprisoned for peaceful efforts to defend the lives of the unborn. The FACE Act unjustly criminalizes acts of conscience aimed at protecting vulnerable human lives. While we commend the courage of those who have accepted severe legal consequences for their convictions, the enforcement of this law highlights its deeper injustice: it violates the right to peaceful assembly and protest. A simple pardon does not resolve the systemic issue—the law itself must be repealed. Pardoning the rescuers without repealing the FACE Act would provide only temporary relief. Many of these brave individuals will continue to act on their deeply held beliefs, risking repeated imprisonment. A true and lasting resolution requires the repeal of this law, which undermines fundamental freedoms and disregards the urgency of their moral convictions. What is the FACE Act and Why Should It Be Repealed?
The Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances (FACE) Act, passed in 1994, imposes harsh penalties on individuals who peacefully protest or block access to abortion facilities.
